If you walk into a club there are usually two “control” devices available: CDJs and turntables. If you are using Serato Scratch or Traktor Scratch, then you have the choice of controlling the software with these two hardware controllers adapted into the digital age.

after "upgraded" to the CDJ 400, i hate going back to the timecode cds. the control is more so precise than using the timecode,, i would go with the 900s. word, I sold my CDJ-1000 MK3 as I gotten a pair of CDJ-400s.

You would need a MIDI compatible controller to be able to do this, such as a CDJ-400. With timecode, it will not return to the cue point until you start the song playing again.

The timecode signal - or timecode CD - is the same whatever CDJ is playing it. I think CDJ800 is the best choice. If it's more like CDJ1000 it has a vinyl mode, and in my oppinion timecode works better if used in real turntables or turntables simmulators.

The CDJ-900 features the exact same jog wheel as that of the CDJ-800MK2, ... but until then anyone using Traktor to scratch would be advised to use timecode or a scratch CD instead. So is it fair to conclude that the CDJ-900’s HID mode is an epic failure, then? No. Not at all.

You don't need a MIDI mixer for that, just the timecode from the CDJs. If you're just using Traktor Pro, you'll need Traktor Scratch Pro in order to feed the software that signal. Pioneer National Trainer // Product Specialist.

It’s worth noting that you can actually hook up to four CDJs into the DJM 900 and have full timecode control over all four decks. However my personal favorite method when using CDJs is using the CDJs in HID Mode with the CDJ 2000s or 900s.
